Madison Youth Arts Center - Art Forms

MADISON YOUTH ARTS | Art Forms

Madison Youth Arts Center, 1055 E. Mifflin St., Madison | June, 2022 | Design & Lead Artist Amy Zaremba, DAMA Production

The design process for this mural began in 2018 and went through different concepts based on community feedback, MYArts committee and board response and practical concerns for production of a community mural during a global pandemic. The abstracted imagery represents sound and auditory arts, visual arts and performing arts. Patterning and youth contributions are based on those general themes.

The final design includes drawings and patterns created by MMSD youth and kids participating in the incredible programs Cultural Connections and Little Picassos. Many of these contributions were screen printed as patterning onto the mural panels with help from artist Yvette Pino. Other elements were hand painted in the DAMA studio.

The MYArts mural represents a community vision and is the product of many hands and minds. My job as designer for this mural presented the challenge of collecting and combining the imagery and ideas of many area kids.

Many thanks to Alicia Rheal and all of the artists at DAMA who helped to produce this project, we all had to adjust and learn along the way.
